Though cloud computing and data center consolidation may be the final destination for government IT, as both an intermediate and alternative step, server virtualization has proven its ability to deliver significant cost reduction – $23 billion by 2015. Reducing IT operating costs is often a primary goal in virtualizing, but, realizing and maximizing cost savings is not always easy – funding, legacy application migration, security, and management support are all potential barriers.
